Celebrating 50 Years

In 2026, Roers proudly celebrates 50 years of building communities, relationships, and lasting impact. What began as a small construction operation has grown into a full-service organization delivering development, construction, property management, and real estate services across not only North Dakota but the entire Midwest.

This milestone is an opportunity to reflect on where we started, how we’ve grown, and the values that continue to guide our work.

Where It All Began

Roers was founded in 1976 by Jim Roers, starting with a pull-behind trailer, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to doing things the right way. From the beginning, the focus was simple: deliver quality work, build trust, and stand behind every project.

Those early years laid the foundation for a company culture rooted in accountability, craftsmanship, and long-term relationships—principles that remain central to Roers today.

Growth Through Opportunity

As client needs evolved, so did Roers. Over the decades, the company expanded its capabilities and geographic footprint, growing from its construction roots into a vertically integrated organization offering: commercial construction, development, commercial and residential property management, and real estate services.

Each phase of growth was driven by opportunity, collaboration, and a willingness to adapt—while never losing sight of the company’s core values.

Built on People and Partnerships

At the heart of Roers’ success are the people—employees, clients, partners, and communities—who have been part of the journey. Longstanding relationships and repeat partnerships are a testament to the trust built over time.

Roers is proud of the teams who bring expertise, integrity, and dedication to every project, and of the partners who share a commitment to building responsibly and sustainably.

In discussing the company’s 50-year milestone, Jim Roers was quick to credit the people behind the work, “I don’t want this to just be about me and the business. If it wasn’t for the great people that work for us and we work with, we would not have had the success we have had throughout the years.”

Celebrations Throughout 2026

As Roers moves into 2026, there is much to celebrate. This milestone year is about more than longevity — it’s a celebration of our people, partnerships, growth, and continued commitment to the communities we serve.

Throughout the year, Roers will be marking the 50th anniversary with a series of celebrations and activities. In May, we’ll celebrate with the Fargo community, followed by celebrations in June with the Dickinson and Minot communities. Additionally, when our new Bismarck office opens, we look forward to hosting a combined grand opening and anniversary celebration.

Beyond in-person events, Roers will be sharing the celebration throughout 2026 with social media highlights, special features, opportunities to win prizes, and more. We’re excited to recognize this milestone alongside the people and communities who have been part of our journey.

We look forward to celebrating all year long — and to continuing to build together into the future.

All Company Meeting & Holiday Party Recap

One of our favorite times of the year happened at the beginning of December 2025. Each division head shared updates on upcoming projects, current projects, completed projects and current pursuits!

Before we dove into our 2025 recap, we had the pleasure of listening to David Wood and Shawn Kessel discuss the 7 Habits of Effective People. They discussed the 7 habits in detail and had a great on stage demonstration.

Welcome to the 1919 Flats

If you have been by our 1919 Flats building, previously known as the SGC Apartments, located in North Fargo, you may have noticed some changes on the first floor. This space has previously been used as office space for many years, but a new change is finally here. The entire first floor recently underwent a remodel adding 21 new apartments, a package room, a clubhouse, a gym, tons of parking and a new leasing office.

During the fall of 2023, our Roers Construction team started demolishing parts of the first floor. This included removing all the old offices, meeting rooms and more to bring us back to the studs and create a new space. As this building is all concrete (which is unique to the Fargo/Moorhead area for apartment living) and our team was working with already installed windows, the units all have a unique touch.

During the remodel, we also renamed this property from its original name of SGC Apartments to the 1919 Flats. We asked our employees to submit names, vote on their favorite and the overall choice was the 1919 Flats.

Each first-floor unit is different than the next unit. Some units are similar layouts for the above floors, but overall, they are unique in each way. This property features 45 different floor plans to choose from! The first-floor units also feature updated cabinets, large windows overlooking University Street and black ceilings. The main entrance has been moved and is now facing University Street.

This property previously did not feature any community spaces in the building. Our goal was to update the property by offering two new spaces for residents to enjoy. Across the hallway from our leasing office is the clubhouse space. Our clubhouse was designed from the team at HOM Furniture in Fargo. The overall product turned out better than we could have imagined. From the wood features to the blue accessories, you will find yourself relaxed in this space. Residents can even reserve the room for their next event!

Get your workout on in our new gym! Down the hallway from the elevator is the new gym. This gym features a variety of machines including a stair stepper, treadmills, variety of weight sets and more. This is a great space and bonus for residents to enjoy without having to leave home to workout.

If you are looking for a new place to live, contact our leasing team to schedule your tour of the 1919 Flats. To find out more about this project, visit our project page here.

Roers Volunteering Recap of 2024

Part of our mission at Roers is to be an active part of the communities where we live through our Give and Grow Program. One of our committees is Volunteering. Our Volunteering mission statement is “The Roers Volunteer committee will provide experiences for Roers employees to give their time and talents to non-profit organizations in our communities.” Our goal is to have one organized volunteering opportunity in each area, per quarter, depending on availability.

Later in 2024, we introduced a new employee incentive called Volunteer Time Off (VTO) which provided employees with 4 hours of VTO to use throughout the year. The VTO program allows employees to take time off during the workday to volunteer in the community. For 2025, each employee will receive 8 hours of VTO to use throughout the year.

We also launched a new webpage on our employee portal that shows ongoing volunteering opportunities in each area! This webpage was launched this fall and a QR Code is shared to all locations and job sites on how to access this page.

Here’s a recap of the volunteering opportunities our employees had this year!

– January: Care for Kids Radiothon in Fargo

– April: Earth Day Clean Up in all areas

– July: Roughrider Days Parade in Dickinson

– August:  Backpack drive for United Way in Fargo

– October: Hope Blooms in Fargo

– December: Bell ringing in Fargo, Minot and Bismarck

We also had the pleasure of our employees using VTO this fall to volunteer during work hours that was not a Roers organized event. Check out there great examples of our marketing team and property management team using their VTO hours this fall.

Ronald McDonald House: Baking goodies for families that are staying in the house while they are here for medical reasons.

The Great North Pole: a local group that helps bring joy to families in need during the holiday season by packing and delivery daily essentials, food, and toys directly to their home.

2024 was a successful year for volunteering at Roers and we can’t wait to see what is in store for 2025!

If your organization has volunteer events/opportunities, we’d love to hear from you! Fill out our contact form here.

Roers Perks Program

Earlier this year, we reinvented what was previously known as Resident Loyalty Program to Roers Perks Program. In the past, this program helped connect our residents to local business’ by offering a special discount for living with Roers. We gave the program a fresh start by going back to the basics and working from the ground up. One of the most significant changes to the program was offering the program to not only our Fargo residents, but our employees too!

Behind The Scenes

Our marketing team spent time discussing and planning how we envisioned the new program would work. This included compiling a list of local businesses in the area to reach out to. A letter was sent out to each business introducing ourselves, what we are going to offer in the Perks Program and what is in it for the business. While we awaited responses, a member of our marketing team, Brenna, designed a new card look. Over a few weeks, we started to hear back from business in town excited to be a part of our program. Our goal was to have at least 10 businesses in our program before our soft launch date. We are happy to announce that we exceeded our goal and are currently partnering with 12 businesses!

Perks Program Businesses

With community at our core, it was our mission to connect residents and employees with those who make the Fargo-Moorhead area feel like home. We are thrilled to become partners with a variety of businesses in the community.

  • The Collective Salon & Spa
  • Lashfull
  • Suite Shots
  • Herd & Horns
  • Mojo Fit Studios
  • Nutrition World
  • Pixeled Brewing Co.
  • Spicy Pie
  • Wild Terra
  • Solidcore
  • Three Dogs Bakery
  • Wildflower Lane Designs

Our Launch Timeline

At the beginning of May, we started our soft launch to a small group of residents in the area.

  • In mid-May, all Fargo employees received their perks cards and information.
  • In the beginning of June, all the residents at The Metropolitan were provided their perks cards. We launched it at The Metropolitan when the first phase of Phase 3 opened!
  • In the beginning of August, the remaining properties in Fargo were provided with their perks cards upon move in or delivered to their doors if they were a resident that renewed their lease.

Connecting Residents to the Businesses

A few weeks ago, our Roers Property Management Team and Marketing Property Specialist held an event at The View on University. This event featured Spicy Pie pizza for residents to enjoy and a game of bingo with each prize being a gift card to one of our perk’s members! This was a great way to re-introduce the program and explain how the program works to residents.

We want to thank all of our perk’s businesses for partnering with us! If you’re a business owner and would like to receive more information about the perks program, please fill out our form here and a member of our marketing team will contact you.

Our next steps of this program is to increase the number of partnering businesses and to expand to our other locations in North Dakota. Check out our perks program page here for more information and what discounts are offered at each business.

2024 Turnover Recap!

The busiest time of the year for our property management residential team has wrapped up for 2024. Turnover is the time of the year where our properties move out and move in over 100 units from their apartment/townhome/single family home.

Our team handled move ins and move outs between six properties in town, with five being in North Fargo and one property in South Fargo. From maintenance to marketing to leasing agents and vendors, everyone put in all their time and dedication to making this process as easy as possible.

The process takes a team effort to ensure everyone keeps on schedule with their part of the process. From the moment a tenant moves out, there is a short time frame to have maintenance, painters, carpet cleaners, cleaning crews and spot checks completed before the new tenants move in. This year we changed the process slightly to spread out the move outs and move ins so it was not such a strenuous process over a one week period for the leasing team and vendors. The Roers team was able to move tenants into 110 units between July 31 and August 15.

Turnover season starts for the residential team around July 20th to August 15th. During this time, we worked through over 100 move outs, working with our maintenance team and outside vendors in a timely manner. With the new turnover process, we were able to schedule move ins in three different increments. This year, we had a brand-new leasing and maintenance team, and we were able to all work together and accomplish this all as one team. We are very excited for our new residents and upcoming year!

Whether you are a student living in one of our North properties or are a new resident living in our south property, we look forward to getting to know you all through the next year. Thank you for making Roers your new home.

The winning caption: "You've Found Your Place."

Roers interview with Sunil.

How did you come up with the caption?

I was captivated by the imagery before me: the apartment
building with its welcoming message etched on the outer wall, and the majestic NDSU-dressed bison standing proudly nearby. They seemed to beckon, each in their own way, saying, ‘You’ve found your place.

What was your reaction when you found out you won?

When I found out I won, it was like a surge of
electricity coursing through me. To think that my words had struck a chord amidst the backdrop of such powerful symbols was both humbling and exhilarating.

What do you plan to do with your winnings?

With the winnings, I plan to delve deeper into my
creative pursuits, perhaps even visit the very scene that inspired my winning caption. It’s not just about the prize money; it’s about honoring the moment of inspiration and seizing the opportunities it brings.

Congratulations, Sunil!  We’re grateful to have the chance to support students at a local community partnership.

Tips for a Cool and Comfortable Summer Apartment

Summer is quickly approaching, which means sunshine, long days, and heat are all headed are all way! However, the transition from winter to the balmy summer months can make it difficult to maintain a comfortable and cool living space. Keep reading to learn some strategies for keeping your apartment at its best.

Add Some Plants to Your Space

Houseplants can be a great way to brighten up your space, and they bring nature to you. Though many people believe houseplants are difficult to keep alive, it’s all about doing a little research to know how to care for it! And if you don’t want the responsibility of a live plant, fake ones are always an option.

If you have pets, remember to make sure your plants are non-toxic. Many popular houseplants, such as monsteras, peace lilies, and philodendrons can be poisonous if ingested. However, there are plenty of non-toxic options out there.

Change Your Sheets

It’s recommended to change your sheets once or twice every two weeks in the summertime. There’s no better feeling than falling asleep on freshly laundered sheets, and washing regularly keeps them looking and smelling their best.

If you’re a warm sleeper, look into sheets that will allow the best ventilation. Fabrics like cotton and linen can provide a cooler sleep.

Be Smart about Cooling

Roers’ maintenance technician manager, Ben Dickson, advises maintaining a consistent cool temperature instead of waiting until it gets hot to turn on the air conditioning.

“It’s most cost effective to run your AC at night as it does not have to work as hard, thus costing less on electricity. East and west facing windows will get the most sun,  so keeping curtains drawn during the day, especially at the peak of the afternoon between 12-3pm when it gets hottest, will keep your unit at consistent temperatures more easily.

The more heavily you fluctuate temperatures, the more money it will cost you. Waiting until it’s too hot in your unit to turn on the air/open windows will result in the AC not being able to keep up, and not cool as effectively.”

Declutter!

If your house is starting to feel a little messy or dusty, it might be time to declutter.

If you get overwhelmed at the prospect of getting rid of things, take it one room at a time. If there are items you are unsure about, put a sticky note on them with a date a few months away. If you don’t use the items by that time, donate them to a thrift store or charity.

When you declutter, you’re not only getting rid of things you don’t use, but also cleaning and dusting as you go. This can go a long way in keeping your house fresh in the hot summer months.

Take the Trash Out

If you’re reading this while eyeing the overflowing trashcan in your kitchen, it’s time to take it out. Invest in a trashcan with a lid to keep smells contained. Additionally, don’t let full bags sit out for long – take it out right away. As a rule of thumb, the kitchen trash should be emptied every few days to keep out bad smells and any bugs that might come with them.

Replace Heavy Curtains

Heavy blackout curtains may be a popular choice for bedrooms, especially when the daylight lasts longer during the summer months. However, they can also make a space feel drab and dusty. Try replacing blackout curtains with something more lightweight for warmer months. Sunlight may help you wake up naturally and can make the room feel larger.

Clean or Change Air Filters

Over time, buildup can gather in your vents and air filters, which might make your AC unit less effective. Summer can also be one of the worst times of year for those with seasonal allergies, but keeping a clean air filter can reduce some sneezing.

We hope you find these tips helpful! With a little bit of planning, you can keep your apartment comfortable all summer long.

Preparing Your Home For Winter

As quickly as the temperatures rise, it is already time to start dropping again. While everyone is excited for fall or winter, it is important to prepare your home for the cooler weather. If you are a season homeowner or a first time renter, it’s very important to take the right steps to prepare your home for the colder months. By preparing your home for the colder months, you will feel more confident, cozy, and warm inside your home. With the help of our Maintance Manager, Ben Dickson, we have complied a list of tips to help prepare your home.

  • If you live in a place with a wall AC, turn it off, unplug it, and put the cover on.
  • Dust off radiators.
  • Make sure your windows seal up to prevent letting in cold air. Keep the windows closed and locked during the winter.
  • If you have a ceiling fan, set the fan to circulate clockwise. This helps your apartment stay warm without turning up the temperature.
  • Test out your heat to ensure it is working properly. If it is not, put in a work order.
  • Swap out your summer bedding for winter bedding to keep you warm while you sleep.
  • If you are using a space heater, only two space heaters can run at a time in one unit. If more space heaters are running, this will cause a power outage.
  • Buy winter essentials before the first snowfall.
  • Keep a shovel inside in case the snow is blocking the doorways.
  • Bring out or purchase a shoe tray for your boots.
  • Test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. If they seem to be working incorrectly, put in a work order.
  • Do not turn off your heat if you are leaving for an extended period. Keep your heat set to 68 – 70 degrees to prevent pipes from freezing up and to maintain a warm unit.
  • If you have an outside area of your apartment or home, cover up your outdoor furniture or store it for the winter to prevent damage.
  • Keep furniture, curtains and blanket’s away from baseboard heaters as this will block your heat from keeping your apartment warm.

By taking these proactive steps, you’ll be on your own way to enjoining a cozy and invite home or apartment throughout the fall and winter months. Stay safe and warm in the upcoming months!
